CHING - THE WELL Commentary: Moving the town does not move the well. It stays the same. They come and go to draw water. The rope that does not quite reach the water or the bucket that breaks bring ill-luck. Image: Water over wood symbolizes the well. Thus the superior man encourages the people to work together. Changing Lines 1. One does not drink the mud in the well. No animals come to an abandoned well. 2. Only fish use the well. The bucket is broken and leaks. 3. The well-water is sweet but, sadly, none drink of it, though they might. If the king sees clearly, all will enjoy good luck. 4. The well is being tiled. This is blameless. 5. The well is fed by a clear, cold spring from which one can drink. 6. Freely drawing from the well, which does not run dry. This is very auspicious.
